PIM Integration

Govern your product data end to end

Your product data is scattered across Excel, ERP and handcrafted databases? Slow enrichment, multi-channel inconsistencies, incomplete product sheets on e-commerce. We integrate a PIM tailored to your catalog and processes — to turn your product data into a true strategic asset.

The challenge

Why centralize your product data in a PIM

Without a PIM, product data quickly becomes a growth bottleneck:

Scattered data: ERP, Excel files, Access databases, supplier emails — no single source of truth
Slow enrichment: manual entry, copy-paste between systems, product go-live delays > 1 week
Multi-channel inconsistencies: different descriptions between website, mobile app and marketplaces
Incomplete product sheets: completeness rate < 70% on e-commerce, direct impact on conversion
Chaotic asset management: scattered product photos, inconsistent naming, unoptimized formats
No validation workflow: errors published directly, no approval circuit
Impossible scalability: adding a channel (marketplace, app) = re-entering all data
Manual translation: manual localization, no translation memory, inconsistencies between languages

Our methodology

End-to-end support, phase by phase

Each phase produces concrete deliverables. You maintain visibility and control at every step.

01 2 to 3 weeks

Product data & process audit

Map your product data sources, analyze data quality and consistency, identify bottlenecks in the enrichment process.

Deliverables
  • Product data source inventory (ERP, supplier files, internal databases)
  • Data quality audit: completeness, consistency, duplicates, errors
  • Enrichment process mapping (who, what, when, how)
  • Distribution channel analysis (e-commerce, marketplaces, print, retail)
  • PIM benchmark (Akeneo, Salsify, Pimcore, inRiver)
  • Multi-criteria decision matrix with recommendation
  • Budget estimate and macro planning
02 3 to 4 weeks

Modeling & scoping

Define the target product data model: families, attributes, variants, assets, relationships. Design enrichment workflows and quality rules.

Deliverables
  • Target product data model (families, categories, attributes, groups)
  • Variant definition and inter-product relationships
  • Enrichment workflow (collection, enrichment, validation, publication)
  • Completeness and quality rules per distribution channel
  • Asset management strategy (images, videos, technical documents)
  • Connector specifications (import/export ERP, e-commerce, marketplaces)
  • Existing data migration plan
03 6 to 10 weeks

Integration & migration

Implement the PIM, develop connectors to your ecosystem (ERP, e-commerce, marketplaces), migrate existing data. Iterate with business teams.

Deliverables
  • PIM installation and configuration
  • ERP connector development (Cegid, SAP) — master data import
  • E-commerce connector development (Shopify, commercetools, Sylius)
  • Marketplace connector (Amazon, Zalando, etc.) if applicable
  • Existing data migration pipeline (ETL scripts, cleansing, validation)
  • Completeness rules and quality alert configuration
  • Business team training (enrichment, workflows, publication)
  • Technical documentation and user guide

Frequently asked questions

Your questions, our answers

01 What is the difference between a PIM and an ERP for product management?
The ERP manages transactional product data (inventory, purchase price, logistics). The PIM manages product experience data (marketing descriptions, photos, videos, technical attributes, translations). Both are complementary: the ERP feeds the PIM with master data, the PIM enriches and distributes to sales channels.
02 How long does it take to integrate a PIM?
Between 3 and 6 months depending on complexity (catalog size, number of connectors, existing data quality). A functional MVP (data model + main e-commerce connector) is typically delivered in 8-10 weeks.
03 Do we need to clean our data before integrating a PIM?
Yes, it's critical. We integrate a cleansing phase into the migration: deduplication, attribute normalization, inconsistency correction. A PIM fed with dirty data won't solve your problems — it will centralize them.
04 How does the PIM connect to our e-commerce?
Via dedicated connectors (REST API / events). The PIM publishes enriched product data to the e-commerce platform (Shopify, commercetools, Sylius). Synchronization can be real-time (webhook) or batch (cron), depending on your data freshness needs.
05 Akeneo Community or Enterprise: how to choose?
Community is sufficient for catalogs < 5,000 SKUs with standard needs. Enterprise brings advanced business rules, integrated DAM, approval workflows, marketplace connectors and SLA support. Beyond 10,000 SKUs or with multi-market needs, Enterprise is recommended.
